Alex Soble Alex, a junior in Trumbull College, prefers majors with three words (Ethics, Politics, & Economics and South Asian Studies). When not pursuing his own education, Alex has a penchant for going to other peoples' schools, whether working and teaching at a center for street children in Mexico City or visiting madrasahs while researching Islamic education in India. At Yale, when he's not busy with the Globalist, Alex can be found debating with the Independent Party and perpetually attempting to start a Yale Model Arab League team. Dabbling in languages (French, Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, and Urdu) is a major hobby of his. His signature style of editing for the Globalist involves pacing vigorously across the room while muttering alternative ways of phrasing a sentence under his breath. ![]() George Bogden Associate Editor A devoted traveler, George has been to Italy, France, England, Russia, China, Japan, India, Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize. He enjoyed working and studying in Turkey this summer. Growing up in Kailua, Hawaii instilled an interest in languages in George. He enjoys studying French and would like to pursue Turkish language study at Yale. While currently undeclared, George is interested in majoring in political science with international studies. He is also active in the Yale International Relations Association. Emma Sokoloff-Rubin Associate Editor
Rishabh Khosla Associate Editor Annie Carney Senior Editor Annie Carney is a senior Political Science major with a concentration in East African politics. She worked and gossiped in the Ugandan Parliament this summer, and spent the latter weeks working with female tailors in northern Uganda. Her claim to fame (well, in addition to donning 13 pairs of underwear at a time as a child) is that she climbed a volcano in Congo. She likes to share this story, since it makes her seem infinitely cooler than she actually is. She is a lapsed/reformed member of the Yale a capella community. Catherine Cheney Senior Editor Catherine Cheney (Yale 2010) is a Political Science and International Studies major in Trumbull College. Her experience as a writer, feature Emma VawterSenior Editor Emma is a junior English major in Silliman College. She loves the Globalist, classical music, Islamic architecture, and old books. Kennedy Senior Editor J.T. is a senior History major in Trumbull College from Stuart, Florida. His first interaction with international affairs was watching the evening news with his grandmother as a young boy. J.T. found the Globalist during his first weeks at Yale and has enjoyed pursuing his interest in international affairs and perfecting his writing with the magazine ever since. A former Assistant Trip Planner, Managing Editor, and Executive Director, J.T. has enjoyed taking part in all the great things that the Globalist does and has learned a lot in the process. J.T. is also currently president of the Yale International Relations Association and is an active member of the Model United Nations Team at Yale. ![]() Amira Valliani Executive Director Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Amira is now a junior in Silliman College studying Political Science and International Studies. Like the rest of the Globalist staff, she loves getting her passport stamped and has had the opportunity to travel to every continent but Antarctica. Last summer, she interned in Egypt and spent time travelling around the Middle East, where she developed a stronger interest in Islam, Middle Eastern politics, and the Arab world in general. Outside of working on the Globalist, Amira stays involved in Silliman's Student Activities Committee, enjoys going on long runs around New Haven, and takes full advantage of the city's vibrant food scene. At Yale, while not enriching his knowledge of song lyrics and trivia or writing for the Globalist, he is involved in Yale's international student community, works as a Berkeley Master's Aide, and enjoys having random conversation with people in dining halls, the library, or his suite at 4 am Gemma Bloemen ![]() Publisher Gemma Bloemen is a Junior in Pierson College majoring in Psychology and International Studies, which allows her to explore her interests in people, cultures and international economy and diplomacy. Fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, Emma goes back and forth between wanting to see as much of the world as possible and loving to really get to know people in new places. Based on her research on a rural women's movement in Southern Brazil, Emma designed a curriculum to engage American high school students in pressing global issues and encourages them to be more active in their own communities. Over the past two years, she has presented the curriculum to public school teachers and university professors in the United States and Brazil. Her first article for the Globalist won a J. Edward Meeker prize for English. Emma loves the challenge and intensity of field research and spent this past summer doing research at a domestic violence center in Northeastern Brazil. At Yale, she plays clarinet, serves as a World Fellows liaison, FOOT leader, Master's Aide, and Dwight Hall Urban fellow, and is always up for an ultimate frisbee game in the TD courtyard.

He is from Muskegon, Michigan, and the middle-of-nowhere nature of that town and prodigious amount of snow have led him to develop an interest in skiing. He also likes to play, listen to, and teach music (guitar and a wide variety of percussion instruments). He wrote for high school publications and has always found international affairs to be quite awesome; he has a particular interest in international human rights organizations, and also likes to study Latin American politics. He speaks proficient Spanish and can say complicated phrases such as "hello" in an unimpressive number of other languages. At Yale, Brad is also involved in The Roosevelt Institution's Security and Foreign Policy center.
